• Rick feels that the main goal of public policy is to allow each individual to live a fulfilling and productive life.
• Rick feels that governments and elected officials should be accountable and transparent in the performance of their responsibilities.
• Is committed to open and honest discourse. Public figures should strive to understand those that have a different point of view, not insult them.
• Rick is committed to action. Governments should listen, but not use listening as an excuse for never being willing to take tough decisions.
• Rick believes that public figures should set an example of responsible and ethical behaviour. Rick has written extensively about ethical issues, and believes that there is a core set of values shared by the vast majority of Canadians that should be modelled by public figures: honesty, personal and social responsibility, respect, open-mindedness, and compassion.
• Rick feels a strong sense of social duty. He has been fortunate in life: to be born in this great country, to have a fulfilling career, to have wonderful children. He wants to contribute to Canada's future.
